AOHIS Madrid: A financial balancing act for everyone, ESG a real estate issue

Madrid (February 3, 2023). The next few years will not be kind to hotel investors, that much is clear. This was already apparent from the opening statements made by the experts in the first round of discussions at the AOHIS Investors Conference in Madrid in mid-January. Yet there's one thing that owners and investors fear more than increased energy and labour costs, more even than inflation and higher capital costs. And that's the ESG criteria. They are the elephant in the room.

m2C Conference Prague: How China's online giants are changing retail

Prague (March 15, 2019). In 2016, the Chinese online merchant Alibaba redefined retail: It went offline. Because acquisition costs for the customer are lower in store. Apart from that: The Chinese still tend to buy offline, defying their general addiction to the internet. The result of Alibaba's decision: Since then, it's no longer been the retail groups, but the internet and technology giants that have worked hard on efficiently combining online and offline sales and so to learn even more about the individual customers. "New Retail" is the magic word of the future.

Loop organiser Andreas Mueller regarding the emotionalising of luxury

Offenbach (June 12, 2015). The small, refined "loop" luxury trade fair in Offenbach has developed admirably (as reported in March/see link). The second edition this year also demonstrated how important the personal conversation between supplier (hotel) and customer (in this case, buyer) is and particularly in the luxury segment. "Luxury always starts with the person," said Andreas Mueller, "because in this segment, emotions are exclusively sold." The Managing Director of Lobster Experience, the organiser behind loop, believes that hoteliers and sales managers often convey too little empathy. Mueller is a follower of neuro marketing, the connections between the personal character and the dialogue with the luxury guest. "To know that my customer is a 64 year-old entrepreneur is not enough!"

Historic Hotels of Europe battle many challenges

Saint Moritz/Sils (April 29, 2011). Groupings of the Historic Hotels of Europe (HHE) are represented in 22 countries. They enable to their guests to dive into submerged worlds or at least, to stay in a historical construction. Not all are "castle hotels and mansions", as characterised by the resident Austrian consortium. In other countries, potentially converted industrial cathedrals are to be found – or old residential houses and castles. Characterising the image of the venerable grand hotels remains to be represented as with the Swiss Waldhaus Sils. Nevertheless, with the first HHE Congress in the Waldhaus, there was also much to hear regarding the great challenges to small and medium-sized private hotels.

After two decades of standardisation and controlling, the hybrid thinker finally puts paid to copycats and benchmark junkies. The future is concerned with the following question: Can things be seen and shaped differently in future? The new power is in seeing, feeling, smelling and forming, in questioning and redefining. David Bosshart, CEO of the Gottlieb Dudweiler Institute (GDI) in Zurich, and Robert Thiemann, Editor in Chief of the design magazine "Frame" in Amsterdam, attempted to describe the new ways of thinking whilst speaking at the Design Hotels "Future Forum" in Berlin. "Leisure Real Estate": Capital and new operators are there, but...

Munich (November 3, 2006). The current offer of leisure real estate partly overlooks the demand. Projects seldom consider future demographic changes. Despite that, developing leisure real estate, mainly in cities, is attracting more and more capital to Germany. Successful leisure real estate is still rare, although the number of professional operators is growing. Without communities' support, only very few projects can be realised. Nonetheless, communities lack the demand for private public partnerships despite being short of cash. A glance at a real-estate segment that includes hotels and also influences their success.

Visions on the future of living - design hotel forum in Vienna

Vienna (November 3, 2006). The Californians have meanwhile installed coffee machines in their cars. Hardly surprising when one considers that statistics show that they spend up to 15 percent of their time on the roads. The first tailor made ship containers are also beginning to appear, a mobile house if ever there was one. But the traveller of today doesn't need a house. He can bathe in airport lounges and can work in his hotel room. These are the facts and the visions for living in the future as discussed by international consultants and architects/designers at the "Future Forum" of the design hotels in Vienna recently. The event closed on a note from the Trend Director of London's renowned Future Laboratory. Trend specialist Tom Savigar presented his ideas on luxury, brands and design.

Topic of Heuer-Dialog: Urban leisure facilities

heuer dialog logo
Munich/Hamburg (October 6, 2006). Leisure facilities in cities can be a curse or a blessing. Carl-Otto Wenzel, Chairman of Wenzel Consulting AG, has seen many stars rise and fall in his more than 30 years as a consultant. In a fast-growing leisure society, urban building projects conceived for the long term should be thought out well in order to be adaptable to new trends. Those who want to make money with this need to be able to share visions. This is true for investors as well as for hoteliers. "Urban leisure facilities under the microscope" is one of the topics at the leisure facility congress organised by Heuer-Dialog on 25th and 26th October in Munich.

Design Hotels raises its demands - An event in Vienna

Logo Future Forum Wien

Berlin/Vienna (September 29, 2006). Claus Sendlinger can only laugh about Ian Schrager's most recent comments about "design hotels being no longer in demand," and judges them as self-promotion. The CEO of Design Hotels in Berlin receives new applications every month, but two out of 30 become a member of this hip hotel and lifestyle association at most. In the case of another eight, the cooperative probably senses the potential for a design concept. But in future, no applicant without a concept will benefit from the cooperative's marketing power. Next week, the "Future Forum" in Vienna will bundle this new demand and will clear the way for ideas at the same time.

Munich (September 22, 2006). After closing, shopping centres clear; gymnasiums and wellness centres, on the other hand, are deserted through the daytime. But that can change and Kai Schimmelfeder, Managing Director of Feder Consulting in Hamburg, knows how. At the Heuer Fachdialog in Munich at the end of October, the specialist will explain how leisure real estate can regain its appeal. Before he begins he gives example of how fitness, wellness and shopping can together become a profitable customer landscape.

Munich: Bernd Heuer Dialog on urban leisure real estate

Duesseldorf (September 1, 2006). Urban leisure real estate is becoming ever more closely connected to tourism. Whether it be an adventure park or sport complex, fitness studio or indoor world, they all have an effect on how we organise our leisure time. With such potential, such facilities have also become a competition factor for hotels which are also focussed on the region and short trip holidaymakers. Bernd Heuer Dialog from Duesseldorf on "Urban Leisure Real Estate for Sportsmen, Shoppers and Tourists", a specialist congress directly following ExpoReal in October in Munich. hospitalityInside.com is exclusive media partner for the event.
