4th World Tourism Forum in Lucerne covers the crust of the subjects

Lucerne (May 1, 2015). There were no industry-moving messages at the 4th "World Tourism Forum Lucerne" (WTFL), but there were an increased number of tourism participants with catchy names in exchange. Nevertheless, the original claim of the forum to become an event comparable to the Forum WEF/World Economic Forum in Davos is still quite far away: Host countries such as Azerbaijan filled the event ticket box, the Queen Mother of Bhutan beneficially enriched the programme and individual speakers such as Jeremy Rifkin were provocative. However, the true tourism leader is still absent – particularly from the hotel industry. Maybe this will change next year: After 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015, the Lucerne Forum will enter China in 2016. The event should be taking place annually in the future.

Lucerne (June 7, 2013). The overriding conclusion of the Think Tank was that if the industry is to reach its full potential to create jobs, boost economies and promote sustainable growth, "it needs disruptive new strategies and it has to move fast to implement them." A summary.

WTFL: Demanding talents, hotels put on the brakes - Kempinski with own ideas

Lucerne (May 31, 2013). "We would like to give the industry something back," said Kempinksi's CEO Reto Wittwer at the opening of the 3rd World Tourism Forum Luzern (WTFL) in April, which young talents of the industry were explicitly invited to join in Switzerland for the third time and take part in the discussions on stage. However, the demands of generation Y and reality in tourism diverge massively. On an international level, a panel discussion in which an Australian student took part, once again showed the enormous difficulties that occur when communicating with young talents addicted to careers. On the sidelines, Reto Wittwer explained how Kempinski is able to bring selected young talents into the GM career more quickly with a dedicated programme.

WTFL Lucerne: IT trends from a global perspective - The start of the data war

Lucerne (April 26, 2013). The figures sound phenomenal but they also entail risks: last year, there were one billion travellers worldwide for the first time; this year, it will already be 1.35 billion, and by 2050, it will be three billion! But how can these masses of people be reached in terms of marketing, how can they be guided on their travels, with which staff will they be served at the destinations and in the hotels? Last week, the 3rd "World Tourism Forum" in Lucerne (WTFL) provided food for thought on this matter. The daily routine of tourism will be influenced by three factors: internet technology, sustainability and shortage of talents. Here, an evaluation of the experts on IT: the linking of offline and online is increasing, the playful persuasion of the customer is top priority. The trend is shifting from an overflow of information to relevant information only. However, linking these pieces of information with other commercial models is still in the early stages of development. But the aim is clear.

2nd World Tourism Forum Lucerne discussed global sustainability

Lucerne (April 22, 2011). The path to a sustained world is still broad, very broad. The world still exists in contradictions: The rich west thinks about it, but does not want to pay for it. "Emerging markets" ask only for material prosperity and up to now, the discussion there about "sustainability" takes place only with a few heads of the uppermost hierarchy. On the one hand, the first "green" hotels and tourism concepts are sprouting up and on the other hand, there are always new low-cost airlines originating that seek only growth. And the desire for global travel rises and rises … In closing, these were the great contradictions in sustainability development that got stuck in the minds of the approximately 200 participants of the 2nd World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTF) last week. And the knowledge that even the executives who were present in Lucerne cannot (still) change very much. Concrete knowledge or even decisions were missing in the end. But there were also too few potent decision makers present.
