Lucerne (April 12, 2013). In the approach of the 3rd World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTFL) that takes place from 17-19 April, 2013 in Lucerne/Switzerland, the initial results of a Social Media study have been published: For tour operators, a Social Media presence is less vital than often accepted. The registration deadline for this meeting of the top tourism professionals is running. Registration for the opening sessiion is still possible.

The results of the study – that will be presented in their entirety during the forum "New Marketing" day on the 19th of April in Lucerne – indicates that even with those users who book their trip online, an attractive customer communication on and through the Social Media channels is less important than conventionally accepted. The most important decisive criteria for the choice of an offer from the point of view of the interviewees are the price attraction and the timely availability of the desired offer, the high functionality of the website and the brand awareness of the company. Further study results: The E-Marketing instruments utilised, as for example newsletters, loyalty programmes or simply the Social Media presence, are not of central relevance in Europe in comparison to the USA or Great Britain.

More than 400 top-notch participants and advisers from the international tourism industry have already registered for the World Tourism Forum Lucerne 2013. So, among others, Gloria Guevara Manzo, former Tourism Minister of Mexico, further Richard Vogel, CEO TUI Cruises, Willem van der Zee, Area Vice President Central Europe with the Rezidor Group and Arja Suominen, Senior Vice President Communications and Corporate Responsibility with Finnair have all registered.

Several tourism ministers are also expected from Greece, Colombia and South Africa, among others. Moreover, the Tourism Ministers from the Seychelles and Libya have accepted. Dr. Michael Frenzel, Chairman World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and President of the BTW as well as Professor Ian Goldin, Director Oxford Martin School have all agreed to appear as keynote speakers.

You can find the complete programme and registration possibilities under: www.wtflucerne.org. The registration form is available at www.wtflucerne.org/registration. Additionally, registration can be conducted on the 17th of April alone.
