A powerful trio

October 5: Expo Real, Hospitality Industry Dialogue and Bricks & Brains

Munich (September 18, 2009). Europe's commercial real estate fair Expo Real can expect around 1,600 exhibitors from 34 countries, according to the present status of registrations. They will meet from 5 to 7 October 2009 in Munich. "Given the difficult economic situation in the sector, this is a very pleasing result. The majority of our long-standing exhibitors have remained faithful to the fair," said Eugen Egetenmeir, a member of the Management Board of Messe München. The Expo Real takes place for the 12th time offering various forums and congresses with lots of intense discussions right from the first day. Here, the hotel industry has had its fixed place for many years - at the "Hospitality Industry Dialogue" (HID) in the course of the "Special Real Estate Forum". Maria Puetz-Willems, Editor in Chief of hospitalityInside.com, arranged the programme for the second time. After the conference and trade fair, hospitalityInside and the Expo Real will host "Bricks & Brains", the first networking event for hospitality insiders.

The topics discussed at the HID try to make relations between investors and operators more transparent. The crisis calls for "creative partnerships": when costs cannot be reduced any further, it might be necessary to question the method of building and technology. This will be the topic of the first panel. Banks are all the more important. How do projects depend on the banks at the moment? Affected developers and operators ask questions and talk about their own experiences. How close may the relationship between a hotel management company and an investor be today? What keeps them together in times of negative figures?

The conference topics - from technology to new rules of play

Why do communities and municipalities require top-class hotels, maybe even luxury hotels, in secondary and tertiary cities? A panel discussion will provide some insight in the ego of city developers. The media hype fuels the discussion about patient and health hotels. But why is it so calm on the market? International experts and concept developers tell their opinion. And last but not least another thrilling topic that might grab up several aspects of the previous panels: what rules of play have changed with respect to agreements under the pressure of the crisis?

Premiere for "Bricks & Brains"

The Hospitality Industry Dialogue is open to all visitors at the Expo Real. Participation in the panel discussions is included in the entry fee. However, those willing to take part in the premiere of "Bricks & Brains" in the evening of October 5 (starting at 7 p.m.) require a separate invitation. At their first common networking event, Expo Real and hospitalityInside expect up to 150 guests – all of them executives from the fields of investment, hospitality, project development and consulting. Relationships can be deepened and, above all, new faces can be seen in an informal setting.

This event makes this day's offer for the hospitality industry complete in an ideal way, and is backed by a prominent supporter: Kempinski Hotels & Resorts acts as main sponsor accompanied by Choice Hotels Europe, 4 green architecture, an architecture firm, Markus-Diedenhofen, an architecture and design firm, Horwath HTL Europe, the Sonntag & Partner auditing company, Solutions Holding GmbH, and Travel Charme Hotels & Resorts.

The Expo Real exhibitors 2009

Expo Real will be occupying six halls with a total of 64,000 square metres of exhibition space. As such the fair is taking up one hall less than at the last event in 2008, but in terms of space it equals that achieved in the growth year of 2007 – despite the fact that this year we are in a recession. In line with this reduction in space, the fair management is also seeing a decline in the number of exhibitors, of around 14 percent.

One benefit for Expo Real this year is the fact that it is taking place in the German property market, which is currently looking more robust than other markets. German participation this year is thus remaining stable, but there is a fall in the proportion of international exhibitors, of around 20 percent (last year: 26 percent), above all from the countries affected most by the crisis.

Joint stands in particular are popular this year. Here exhibitors from individual countries, regions or cities get together under one umbrella, to tap into synergies and save costs. The Turkish property market, for example, is represented for the first time at such a stand. Exhibitors there include Emlak Konut GYO A.S. and other Turkish companies such as Avrupa Konutlari, VARYAP Holding and Tulip Development. VARYAP recently picked up two accolades at the "International Property Awards" for their Meridian residential and commercial project, designed to LEED standard.

Despite the decline in participation from abroad, a whole series of exciting property markets will be presented at the fair. The biggest international joint stand will be the Holland Property Plaza. Also taking joint pavilions will be Austria, France, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Switzerland, and the cities and regions of Budapest, Vienna, Milan, St Petersburg and Moscow.

In 2008 the fair attracted a total of 42,000 participants from 78 countries (www.exporeal.net). / kn
