ITB Asia: Growing demand

Singapore (June 4, 2010). First signs reveal that this year''s ITB Asia will have a strong surge in growth in October. In all likelihood, it will be the largest ITB Asia since the initial event in Singapore in 2008. Compared to the previous year, 15% more exhibition space has already been sold.

"The unexpectedly high demand for exhibition space reveals an increasing confidence in growth,” says Nino Gruettke, Managing Director of the third ITB Asia, to take place from October 20 to 22. The organiser, Messe Berlin (Singapore), presents the ITB Asia as a "trade fair for the Asian travel market" and expects about 700 buyers.

This year, several exhibitors have increased or even doubled their exhibition space. Among them are: Tourism Authority of Thailand, Nepal Tourism Board, Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Asian Connections Alliance, Booking.com, Frasers Hospitality (Singapore), La Flora Resort and Spa (Thailand) and Luxury Travel (Vietnam).

About 70% of the booked exhibitors are previous customers. About 30% are exhibiting for the first time. Among the new exhibitors are Moscow Exhibition & Convention Agency, Galextur – Galapagos Expedition Tours (Equador), TripAdvisor (USA), J Team (Japan), Beijing Overseas Tourism Corporation and NaturCert (Greece).

Signs of growth

First signs of strong growth in 2010 were already revealed during an independent survey at the end of last year''s ITB Asia. In a survey involving 190 exhibitors, 262 expert visitors and 309 purchasers, 74% of the exhibitors confirmed having a positive impression of the exhibition. Nearly 85% wanted to recommend the participation to other colleagues. More than 88% were prepared to participate in the ITB Asia 2010.

The ITB Asia 2009 had 6,100 participants; among them were 553 invited purchasers. The next trade fair, once again supported by the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau, will be taking place in the Suntec Singapore Exhibition & Convention Centre from October 20 to 22, 2010. It is being organised by Messe Berlin (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

The trade fair presents hundreds of exhibitors from the Asian Pacific, Europe, North and South America, Africa and the Middle East, and does not only pertain to the leisure market, but also to business trips and MICE events. Moreover, they expect exhibitors from all fields: destinations, airlines and airports, hotels and holiday resorts, leisure parks and attractions, operators of domestic tours, destination management companies, cruise operators, health resorts, convention centres, travel technology companies and many more.
