Munich (March 26, 2010). Health tourism is in trend. But what conditions must property, locations and concept fulfil for the whole enterprise to become economically viable? "Healthcare meets tourism" is a one-day workshop initiated by the Austrian consultancy, Kohl & Partner. On 5 July, interested insiders will meet in Munich to assess healthcare properties and destinations. The symposium is supported by the Bavarian Ministry for the Economy. hospitalityInside is media partner; subscribers benefit from special conditions.
"Healthcare meets Tourism - Destinations and Real Estate: Current Trends in Health and Medical Tourism" is the exact title of the symposium. The event is aimed at the finance and real estate sector as well as the health and tourism industry. Kohl & Partner, the leading Austrian hotel and tourism consultancy with offices in Munich and Stuttgart, has for years focussed attention on health and tourism/hotels.
Dr Otto Ziegler, State Secretary for Tourism in the Bavarian Ministry for Economy, Infra-structure, Transport and Technology, will kick off the event with a speech on the tourism industry in Bavaria. He will explain supply and demand, trends in hotel development and future developmental focal points.
Property profiles and operator criteria
The symposium will further include an analysis of health tourism in Germany and look at the challenges facing today''s health resorts. Investors, project developers and destination representatives will then meet in the first talk round to discuss the opportunities presented by the various destinations. Operators, developers and investors will then go on to show the potential of clinic hotels, care hotels and health resorts. How must the health resort of the future be designed? What features must the building possess, what hotel and medical technology is necessary, how will investment be structured and how profitable will the area be? Siemens Hospitality provides some answers.
The afternoon is dedicated to case studies: A clinic hotel group and two health resorts (Regena Bad Brückenau and Artepuri med on the German isle of Ruegen) provide a glimpse of their concepts, success factors and operating practices.
After all, the symposium is also aimed at customers: Where are the patients/hotel guests to come from? One expert will report how he "imports" patients from Eastern European countries, which locations are in demand and how contracts with service providers should be structured. A talk round on innovative real estate and service concepts will round off the symposium, the first of its kind in Munich.
