Now Plateno enters Europe.

Berlin (February 12, 2016). For the very first time, a Chinese hotel group will attend the "ITB Hospitality Day": Plateno Hotel Group. With 3,000 hotels, it's the biggest chain in China - and is now preparing its market entrance in Europe through offices in Berlin. Maria Puetz-Willems, Editor-in-Chief of hospitalityInside.com, will interview Eric Wu, Chief Financial Officer & Executive Director of the Guangzhou-based hotel chain Plateno at the ITB Berlin.

Plateno is growing rapidly today, which is why the giant Jin Jiang took an interest in the hotel group and incorporated it in 2015. Plateno launched in 2005 - with a simple quality promise: It promised its guests a hot shower in 10 seconds. At the time, this wasn't the norm among low cost accommodation providers. There was also a good mattress and functional online distribution! And it worked. Plateno's main brand, the budget brand 7DaysInn, made good on this quality promise. …

Alex Zheng established Plateno Hotels in 2005. Previously, he was responsible for the leading Chinese online travel portal Ctrip.com in marketing as well as Vice President (the portal is roughly comparable in terms of significance to Booking.com in central Europe). Here, Zheng saw that many hotels in China didn't have an online presence...

Two years later, in 2007 Eric Wu joined him as Chief Financial Officer. He has an MBA from Michigan State University and worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the US and China for nine years. As Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Internal Controls, Risk Management, Corporate Governance and Audit Support are his specialty.

Two years after founding the company, Plateno already counted 300 hotels. Today, the group's 3,000 hotels are operated under 14 hotel brands, covering 300 cities in China and 9 countries. Plateno's loyalty program counts 80 million members (www.platenohotelsgroup.com). These are sensational results which are difficult to imagine today outside China.

In line with the overarching theme for the entire ITB congress this year - digitalisation - Eric Wu will certainly also be able to explain how a hotel group is able to benefit from the Chinese passion for the internet. On ITB Thursday from 1.30 to 2:30 p.m. under the title "ITB CEO Interview: Totally digital?"
