2. ITB Hospitality Day: Hotel architecture and design of the future

Augsburg (February 16, 2007). What is imaginable, what is possible? Swimming in a museum, living in an organic hotel honeycomb? Two German architects and designers show their ideas and visions on the topic of living in the future at the second hotel congress at the ITB, the "Hospitality Day" on Thursday, 8. March. Creative ideas from the natural world.

An expert talks with colleagues: The Wiesbaden based interior designer Anja Schmidt loves colours and strong colourful impressions. She has given offices and medical practices a "harmonious river" and mixes ideas from private living and commercial accommodation. Hotels were often focal point of her inspiration.

And so the better she understands the thoughts and vision of Matthias Hollwich and Nik Schweiger. Hollwich, born in Bad Toelz in Bavaria and today primarily resident in New York, belongs to those "experimental" architects and designers who also understand living as "transformation of experience". Whoever travels and takes holidays in foreign destinations looks for an experience far apart from that of everyday life. And because in Hollwich's opinion, new ideas in architecture and design are hardly like to come from the history of humankind and their styles of living, he looks to the natural world for his inspiration. Nik Schweiger, resident in Berlin, then presents his ideas on a multi-sensory "genetic architecture" which he realised in "biorhythm" projects. This sounds complicated, but is fascinating - and indeed also realisable, as he'll also set out to demonstrate. Behind the idea of "biorhythm" stands a philosophy that "brings real and imaginary space as well as social aspects in balance with sensibility and intellect". Easily said: Schweiger sets rooms in scene. He combines in unique ways materials of all kings with music/sound and light and so creates unusual "worlds of wellbeing" - even real wellness worlds, really delighting all senses.
